Nevada is an independent skate and surf retailer located in the popular surf area of Mount Manganui, New Zealand. Working closely with local Architect Stephen Bird, Prospace were engaged to develop a contemporary retail interior design for shoppers to hang out in and relax.
The store is located on the exterior of a popular shopping mall and has a relatively long and narrow building envelope of 30 x 12m. Generous use of open glazing to the South East shop front corner provides a light natural shopping environment and easy visual access from the adjacent mall entry.
The design also incorporates large centrally located feature denim walls that act to screen the generously proportioned guy's and girl's fitting rooms. Natural materials such as bamboo and macrocarpa have been used in flooring and woven wall panels, with leather upholstered furniture in chill out areas. These natural materials were complemented by the selected use of carpet tiles and laminates in order to minimise build costs without compromising design intent.
