Prospace Prospace recently completed Retail Design Project – Billabong, Sydney Arcade, Australia, 27 April,  2011

Check out the new stores opening night: http://www.vimeo.com/23017691

For Billabong,  its core value  is based on  the idea of “inspiring youth” so the intention was to create a store that offered the customer a true brand experience over 600 square metres and 4 levels that would deliver a inspirational message to Billabongs target market.

Within the store it was important to represent complete brand and category immersion with strong locations for “Hot spot” merchandising that would allow the telling of “retail stories” and give powerful seasonal on trend looks and promotions.

Due to its size and location it was important that the store offered a full range of all categories and that its product was more than just items on a rack, it needed to show the customer what the brand was about. One example of this is on the first mezzanine floor that has been dedicated as a space that would showcase events, give workshops and introduce technology innovations that would change out on a regular basis.

Located slightly off a busy Pitt Street it was important to make the shop front as bold and dynamic as possible to attract customers. Once there, a timber portal that runs around the first 5 meters of the entrance acts as a transitional space into the shop that also showcases new ranges and allows a decompression space before entering the store.  With the women’s range on the ground floor its then up to the mens on the 1st floor via the first of the two mezzanine areas with the kids range on the top floor.

It’s hoped that the new SDNY billabong store will be more than just a surf store, that it will mesh the core brand values within the built environment and that it will further develop Billabongs DNA and to provide inspiration and a back drop to its customers lives.

Prospace  Westfield Design Award  - Goldmark, Geelong Westfield, February 2011

Goldmark Geelong designed by Prospace has been named as the winner of 'Best Retail Design for Return to Tenant category' -  for their store in Westfield's Geelong Shopping Centre, (for the Quarter 3, 2010).

Awarded by peer review, this award recognises the work Prospace has put into refreshing the Goldmark retail experience.

Designed to attract a younger target market while maintaining their appeal to existing customers Prospace explored new materials, lighting and layouts to capture the bright, contemporary look and feel that Goldmark sought in their new retail environments.

Strategic spatial planning, design of shopfronts, cabinetry and fixtures along with clever use of mirrors, lighting and signage was essential to achieve a more contemporary retail look.

The interior design makes use of a variety of materials such as white mosaic tiles, Trezzini, white lacquered cabinetry, glass and innovative LED illuminated signage.

Prospace have so far completed the design, project management and furniture supply for over 25 Goldmark stores across Australia utilising this fresh look.

Prospace Prospace recently completed Retail Design Project - ELEMENT, December 2010

Location: Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Prospace has designed a new look ELEMENT flagship store in Burleigh Heads on the gold coast, Queensland, Australia.

The brief from the client was simple; deliver a retail environment that is inspiring, fresh, on budget and consistent with ELEMENT’s core brand values.

Working within an existing building envelope  and trying to minimize the internal intervention, the design needed to adapt to and reuse as many existing features as possible while giving the space new life.

The interior design needed to translate the principles of the ELEMENT brand into visual and functional representations that would appeal to the youth culture without losing any integrity. One way to achieve this was to use “honest” materials such as plywood and recycled Australian timbers as well as populating the merchandising with reused “found” objects. The fixtures were intended to be basic and simple and to feel as though they hadn’t been constructed but rather stacked or placed in the shop without any “design” intervention.

Within the store, both fashion and skateboarding are equally important and it was imperative to accommodate both with equal presence. It was important to create a couple of focus or feature areas, one of which  was the skate area.  Located half way along the left hand wall, it allows the board’s graphics to be shown off against a neutral background and with a work table in front that allows the customization of boards, wheels and trux, it offers up, without compromise, the total package for skaters.

But perhaps the strongest feature in the store is the shoe wall; it’s located in the centre of the space between the skate and the denim area. Its form echo’s the shape of the skate park bowl or half pipe. It uses timber sticks of varying length that seem to have been thrown together to form a dynamic sculptural form that seems to oscillate with movement. It functions both as a divider, shoe display and to draw customers to the centre and rear of the store from the double height entry space.

With a makeover to the existing façade and landscaping that has been designed and built as its own skate park by Brisbane architects, Hassel together with an injection of understated style to the interior by Prospace, the new gold coast ELEMENT is a real asset and destination for those wanting a relaxed,  cool retail and skating experience.

Prospace  Prospace Retail Design Project - Jewellery on Cuba - October 2010

“Jewellery On Cuba” is a new independent jewellery store on Cuba Street Wellington selling well known brands such as Pandora, Thomas Sabo and Karen Walker.  As a design and build project for Prospace, the brief for this store was to create a clean sophisticated space with a hint of “industrial” whilst maximizing display.

Half of the store was to be fitted out with “Pandora” display cases supplied by the client.  With only 30m2 of tenancy to work with clever planning of the layout was essential with the final layout appearing effortlessly simple.  The “industrial” feel was created by retaining the existing concrete ceiling with its grid work of services and painting it out white.  Off white semi gloss lacquer was chosen for the new display cases to tie in with the supplied Pandora joinery and then the same colour was used for the walls to keep the store light and create the illusion of space. The white of the joinery and walls was then offset by the high gloss black of the POS counter and the tiles to the shopfront.

As with any store showcasing small items, key to the success of the design was the lighting.  Strategically placed track lighting adds to the industrial vibe of the ceiling whilst the contemporary crystal “chandelier” in the centre of the store adds a touch of elegance to the space whilst softening the whole feel.

“We have had a lot of compliments on the shop and that is due to Prospace’s design and workmanship, which we really appreciate.”  John and Penny, Jewellery On Cuba, October 2010.

 Prospace BC Melbourne Crown Casino

"BC by Beachculture" The recently completed new "BC by Beachculture" concept store at Melbourne Crown Casino represents a fresh direction for Beachculture.

Working closely with the team at Beachculture, Prospace developed a complete new BC aesthetic aimed at a more refined and mature Beachculture customer. The "BC shopper" has grown up with "coastal cool" shopping at traditional Beachculture stores and has now developed into an individual with diverse interests including art, music, the beach lifestyle and of course creating their own independent urban look.

The store features commissioned Art work from local Australian artists,  vintage display cases and visual merchandising as well as Deus Ex Machina racer bikes for sale!

Core to the design concept was the urban big city apartment that the hypothetical "BC shopper" would either live or dream of living!  The changing rooms feature full height applied graphic scene of the Melbourne skyline... like stepping out onto the balcony.

Prospace    Prospace Billy Webb Centennial Challenge

Prospace was proud to be involved with this amazing event held in Wanganui, New Zealand on the 5th-7th December 2008.

George Russell and Andrew Ritchie, Directors of Prospace were delighted to be able to give something back to the local Wanganui community to celebrate almost 20 years in business.

The event was particularly special for George Russell, an experienced and passionate oarsman who fulfilled an ambition to row with two of the finest Olympic athletes in recent history.

Check it out on www.billywebbchallenge.co.nz

Celebrating 100 years since Wanganui's favourite son, Billy Webb won the rowing World championship, Norwegian Olaf Tufte, Double Olympic Gold medalist, accepted the challenge to a rematch against Mahe Drysdale who famously picked up a single sculls bronze medal behind Tufte in Beijing.

It is estimated that 20,000 lined the banks of the Whanganui river, as Tufte, Drysdale and Olympic rower Hamish Bond - who won a wild card race to earn his place in the race, fought for the hearts of Wanganui and the $5,000 prize.

Tufte defended his title with finesse, holding a lengths lead from Drysdale, with Bond unable to keep to the pace of the leading two.

'He went out of the blocks like it was a 2000 metre race,' Drysdale said afterwards of Tufte. 'You know in racing like this that you really don't want to get behind and I was pretty much behind from the very start.'

With the finish in sight, Tufte battled with Drysdale to lead by 3 lengths going into the final corner and under the final bridge. Despite Drysdale's legendary 'big push.' Tufte crossed the finish line the victor of the sculling titans and claimed the ornate glass waka trophy and the $5000 prize money.

The Prospace Team were out in force to support their heroes, lining the banks of the Whanganui River and shouting for their favourite sculler. Earlier in the week, Mahe and Olaf met the Prospace Team at our factory and gave an insight into their careers, their unique friendship and rowing stories, signing autographs and smiling for many photos!

Mahe and Olaf were a sponsors dream – You are welcome back to Prospace any time!!
