Location: Canterbury of New Zealand, The Plaza, Palmerston North

The Canterbury Clothing CO, Palmerston North is a refurbishment of the existing Canterbury store. The historic retailer specializes in sports and sports accessories. Canterbury was established in the New Zealand province of Canterbury in 1904 to manufacture and supply rugby jerseys. The brief from the client was a new direction for the store design but to retain the integrity of Canterbury Clothing CO. The store concept was developed from the idea of a traditional sports ‘club rooms’ but with a modern take. This idea was translated into a cladding detail for the POS and feature walls. Timber doors and classic furniture in the fitting room area was used to complement this ideology. The result was a modern and classy look for a traditional and historic company.
